What Are The Specs?

Carry 3 handguns, magazines, ammo, a tool kit, and cleaning supplies in the bag, with room to spare.

When I first picked up the Savior Specialist Range Bag, I thought they’d accidentally shipped a pistol inside of it. Weighing in at 6 Lbs while empty, it feels like a solid storage platform. Let me be clear, this is not a floppy duffel bag. This is a high-quality, internally structured bag with a polymer frame to haul your gear and protect your investment.

How much does it hold? My old range duffel bag is 20″ x 10″ x 14″, despite the Savior Specialist Range Bag being slightly smaller at 18.5” x 9” x 12” I was able to fit everything I carry inside of it, with room to spare. Depending on your needs, you can comfortably fit six full-size pistols in padded sleeves, with mags, and accessories, including ear and eye pro inside the bag. If you’re only carrying three full-size pistols to the range, you’ll have plenty of room left for ammo.

Design & Build Quality

It’s the little things: The lockable front zippers add a layer of security to the bag.

At first glance, the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag doesn’t really stand out with its subdued, tactical aesthetic. This is a good thing, as the bag doesn’t really call attention to itself. The bag is made of durable, high-quality 78TPI 600D polyester, a material known for its water-resistant properties and exceptional strength. This sturdy construction ensures that the bag can withstand harsh outdoor environments, such as sand, rain, mud, or snow, and it can easily handle the wear and tear that comes with frequent use.

The bag is reinforced with heavy-duty KAM Coil zippers, ensuring smooth operation and preventing breakage over time. The zippers are large enough for easy access to the compartments, even when wearing gloves, which is a thoughtful touch for those using it in colder or tactical conditions. The exterior is lined with a layer of padding to offer extra protection for the contents within, especially delicate items like optics, magazines, or electronics.

In terms of the overall design, the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag is highly functional. It features a spacious main compartment, multiple side pockets, and a variety of internal dividers to keep everything organized. Additionally, the bag comes with both a top carry handle and an adjustable shoulder strap, providing flexibility in carrying options depending on the user’s preference and load. The straps are well-padded, offering comfort during long treks to and from the range.

Savior Specialist Range Bag Features:

As mentioned, the bag has many usable features. The longer you use the bag, the more you realize how well thought out the feature set is. It’s adaptable to a wide variety of situations. If you’re a competition shooter, who mainly competes with handguns, this could be the only gear bag you need. It’s spacious enough for multiple guns, ammo, and accessories, while still giving you the flexibility to customize your load-outs. If you’re an RO, or instructor, who spends all day at the range, you can pack your gear, along with instructional materials, or personal items to keep you going. If you’re a casual shooter, who just needs a quality bag to organize your gear, it’s a great solution as well.

Storage Capacity & Organization

Need to carry six additional full-size magazines? No problem, the front pocket can hold them.

When it comes to a range bag, efficient organization is key to keeping your gear safe, accessible, and ready to use. The Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag excels in this area, offering a multitude of compartments and pockets designed to meet the needs of shooting enthusiasts.

Main Compartment

The main compartment is large enough to accommodate a variety of firearms, whether you’re bringing multiple handguns, a small PDW, or a combination of both. It can hold most manufacturer handgun cases, ammo boxes, and even some additional accessories like cleaning kits or ear protection. The space is deep enough to keep everything organized without making it feel too cramped.

What sets the main compartment apart is its customizable interior. The bag comes with an adjustable velcro divider that allows you to reconfigure the width of the bag to suit your specific needs. I do wish it also included vertical dividers, but you can always use third-party options. This flexibility is crucial for shooters who like to change the types of firearms or gear they take to the range depending on the day.

Top Pocket

When the bag is open, there is a zipper-closed top pocket on the underside of the lid. This handy compartment can hold a variety of long, thin accessories. It’s perfect for bore snakes, collapsable cleaning rods (even with a T-handle), cloth/rags, and a variety of other accessories. One of my few complaints about the bag is that I wish Savior had made this compartment transparent. As useful as it is, it would be much easier to find the items you’ve stored in it if you could see into the compartment. You see this transparent storage design used in many modern camera bags.

Side Pockets

In addition to the main compartment, the bag boasts several well-sized side pockets. These pockets are perfect for smaller items such as cleaning accessories, magazines, targets, or extra ammunition. For reference, I was able to fit four of the Federal Premium 9mm 124gr HST JHP 20-round boxes in one side pocket with ease. The design of these pockets ensures that your gear is easy to access, preventing you from fumbling around during a time-sensitive situation.

Notable pocket features include the left-side pocket with sewn webbing that can hold 2 additional magazines, or tools. The right-side pocket is ideal for storing electronic items like range finders, shot timers, or other sensitive equipment. This pocket is lined with a soft fabric that helps protect electronics from bumps or scratches, which is a thoughtful addition for users who carry more expensive devices.

Front Organizer Panel

One of the standout features of the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag is the front organizer panel. It includes multiple smaller pockets, elastic loops, and slots for smaller accessories such as tools, batteries, or spare parts. This is especially useful for shooters who like to carry a variety of small items and want to keep them organized and readily accessible without digging through the rest of the bag.

The elastic loops on the front organizer are perfect for securing items like magazines, pens, cleaning brushes, or multitools. The ability to organize these smaller items within a dedicated space keeps everything neatly in place, reducing the risk of losing important accessories or tools while at the range.

Comfort & Portability

Knowing your gear is organized, and stored safely makes transporting it easier.

Let’s be honest, the least enjoyable part of a trip to the gun range is carrying all the gear back and forth. The Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag places a significant emphasis on user comfort. The adjustable shoulder strap is padded and wide enough to distribute weight evenly across the shoulder, reducing the strain during longer periods of carry. It also features a non-slip surface that keeps the strap from sliding off the shoulder, which is helpful when carrying the bag in a variety of conditions.

For those who prefer to carry the bag by hand, the reinforced top handle is sturdy and comfortable, even when fully loaded. The padding on the handle is sufficient for a secure grip, ensuring that you won’t experience discomfort when handling the bag, even when it’s heavy. I’ve weighed this bag down with close to 50 Lbs of gear and had no issues hauling it to and from the car on a range trip.

That being said, the size and weight of the bag when fully loaded, could be a bit cumbersome for some smaller users, especially for those who need to carry it over longer distances on uneven terrain. It’s not a backpack or a rucksack. You are going to feel the weight on your arms and your shoulders. However, the combination of the shoulder strap and handle makes it relatively easy to switch between carrying methods, providing users with more options for portability.

Durability & Weather Resistance

a photo showing water resistance of polyester fabric
Water beads up nicely on the polyester surface, but does eventually make its way through.

As a range bag, durability, and resistance to the elements are crucial factors, and the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag delivers in both areas. The 600D polyester fabric is highly durable, offering protection against abrasions, tears, and the general wear and tear that comes with frequent use. The material also offers water resistance, ensuring that your gear stays dry during rainy days or when the bag is placed on wet surfaces.

While the bag is water-resistant, it’s important to note that it is not fully waterproof. You can’t put your electronics in it, and submerge it in water without them being damaged. If you’re looking for something to withstand prolonged exposure to heavy rain or submersion in water, you may want to consider a more specialized bag. However, for general outdoor conditions, the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag provides ample protection against the elements. I’ve had it at the range multiple times in the rain, and it dried out once I got home within an hour.

Price VS Value

The included padded pistol sleeves can hold a full-size handgun, with light, optic, and two magazines.

The MSRP on the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag is set at $109.99. That does not include additional accessories that Savior makes or some of the limited edition print options that are available.  Even at that price point, the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag offers an excellent balance of quality and affordability. It is competitively priced compared to other range bags in the market, and considering the features and durability it offers, it provides exceptional value. The bag’s versatility and ample storage space make it a solid investment for both recreational shooters and competitive marksmen.

When compared to high-end tactical gear bags, the Savior Equipment Specialist Range Bag stands out for its accessibility and practicality. You’re getting a good value for your investment with this bag. While it may not have the same level of premium features as some high-end bags, it provides all the essential elements that a range bag should have, including durability, storage, and comfort. If you’re new to shooting and looking for your first range bag, I couldn’t think of a better option to go with. This bag will give you room to grow, and serve you well as you find your footing in the hobby.

Pros:

  • Spacious and well-organized: Plenty of room for firearms, ammo, accessories, and electronics with a customizable interior.
  • Durable construction: 600D polyester fabric ensures longevity and resistance to harsh elements.
  • Comfortable to carry: Padded shoulder strap and reinforced handle provide multiple carrying options.
  • Affordable pricing: Offers excellent value for money considering the features it provides.

Cons:

  • Not fully waterproof: While the bag is water-resistant, it may not offer full protection in extreme weather conditions.
  • Top Pocket not transparent: You might need a flashlight to find the gear you’ve stowed in the top pocket.
  • May feel bulky when fully loaded: Depending on the user, the bag might feel heavy or cumbersome with a lot of gear inside.
