Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case: Build Quality & Reliability

a photo of the Magpul DAKA Double pistol case with accessories
Magpul’s DAKA Double pistol case can hold your magazines, tools, and accessories.

The Magpul DAKA Double pistol case has the quality you’ve come to expect from all Magpul products. It boasts double stitching on the handles plus Magpul’s durable DAKA material – a proprietary product. The handles are a bit floppy and tend to get caught on things in your vehicle. They could be improved with a velcro, or DAKA material handle grip to keep them together.

Even though this is a solid product, it’s important to remember its purpose. It’s supposed to protect your gun from moisture while you’re at the range—not from a fifty-foot drop. However, that’s not to minimize the importance of water resistance.

Owning a pistol case that’s resistant to water lets you easily bring your sidearms out to shoot in damp conditions, such as rain or snow. With a pistol bag that is not resistant to water (or very little), even a small amount of moisture absorption could begin to damage your firearms and magazines.

Note: As we try to stay balanced in our reviews, we must mention the downside of the waterproofing. For many, the waterproof zipper is stiffer than they’re used to. If you’re not careful and try to force it, you could pull the handle off the zipper. However, if you take some time to get used to it, you shouldn’t have any major issues.

Ease Of Use & Setup

The Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case is easy to set up and use. It comes ready to go, and if you like to shoot large pistols with big double-stack magazines, this is the handgun tote for you.

That said, small firearms will not be as secure as larger ones. The bag is geared toward larger items, which may be more troublesome in states with specific limits on magazine capacity. Single-stack magazines will not fit as tightly within the mag loops, but they’re still secure enough.

Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case: Specifics Uses

For those tired of bringing tiny pistol sleeves to the range (and having their magazines in a different bag), the Magpul Double Pistol Case offers an all-in-one handgun storage option. You can bring two firearms and ample ammunition and still have a little extra room to carry some targets or earbuds.

This is also a great bag for those who want something discreet. It looks like a briefcase, allowing you to tote it around without looking too threatening.

Common Questions About the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case

A full-size handgun with magwell will fit inside the bag, but just barely.

Now, let’s take some time to answer your questions about the DAKA double pistol case. Many factors go into buying a new gear, particularly a pistol case.

You could be lugging thousands of dollars worth of equipment in this bag, so it’s critical to know as much as you can about it.

Common questions about the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case:

Which pistols/mags can it hold?

This case is designed to hold pistols of all sizes. Standard full-sized pistols should be no trouble, but extra-large pistols may have more issues. Just match up your pistol with the dimensions (see the spec sheet above), and you’ll be good to go. Two full-size handguns with magwells attached will fit inside the bag, but just barely. Yes, in case you’re wondering, it will zip closed with the aforementioned guns secured in place.

Is it weatherproof?

This case’s info says it’s weather-resistant. Will it prevent moderate rain, moisture, and splashes from damaging your firearm and magazines? Yes. Should you use it regularly as a raft? No.

How well does the case hold up to use?

Magpul is not in business to make cheap, throw-away products, and this pistol case is no exception. It’s a solid case that will give you years of use. I’ve been using it for several months and it’s holding up very well. The exterior will show usage marks, but you can wipe most of them off with a wet rag, or cleaning cloth.

Can you lock it?

You can lock this case with a small padlock; however, you need to ensure that you have a lock that’s small enough.

Can you use it for air travel?

This bag is not approved for air travel. For transporting firearms on planes, you want something with a hard shell that is much more secure during flight.

Is this pistol case impact-resistant?

This case has some foam padding around the exterior to protect your magazines and firearms from typical use. However, I wouldn’t necessarily drop this from heights or drive over it with your truck. The elastic/velcro straps that hold the guns in place are very secure. Magazines and accessories fit snugly in the opposite-side pouch.

Now that you have a detailed understanding of this pistol case and how it works, let’s conclude this review.

Reccomended? Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case

DAKA: Magpul quality and utility at an affordable price point.

The Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case is a great option for carrying multiple handguns and magazines to the range without hassle. This pistol case is extra handy for those who want to take their firearms shooting in adverse weather conditions (or even just those less-than-perfect days).

This Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case is a relatively new product from Magpul. However, it’s made with quality materials and retains the precise construction we know and love from Magpul products. The zipper will take a little getting used to (especially around the corners), and the handles are floppy, but overall, this a solid pistol case that will serve your sidearms well in rain, snow, or shine.

My overall rating of the Magpul DAKA Double Pistol Case: 4/5 4 out of 5 stars
